Gold Coins of the Ottoman Empire and Turkish Republic

The earliest Ottoman gold coin was minted in 1477 during the 27th year of Mehmed II's reign. The weight and devices of the coin which was known as sultani remained essentially unchanged for more than two centuries until the reign of Mustafa II, when the tughra or imperial monogram was added.
